Europe has entered a new phase in its fight to build resilience against climate change. After four productive years, the REGILIENCE project has officially evolved into REGILIENCE+, marking the start of a renewed effort to bridge the gap between climate adaptation knowledge and real-world action. This next chapter directly supports the ambitious objectives of the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change.
From Reflection to Renewal in Thessaloniki
The handover between projects was celebrated in Thessaloniki, Greece, over three days of collaboration and reflection. On October 21st, 2025, partners gathered for the final REGILIENCE event to look back on key lessons and achievements. Just two days later, on October 23rd, REGILIENCE+ officially kicked off, ready to build on those strong foundations and drive adaptation forward.
From Knowledge to Actionable Solutions
The EU Mission on Adaptation continues to play a central role in helping Europe’s regions and communities prepare for climate impacts. It supports the testing and scaling of innovative solutions together with local and regional authorities. REGILIENCE+ is designed to make sure those solutions don’t stay confined to reports or pilot projects.
The project’s mission is clear: identify, refine, and share the most effective adaptation measures emerging from the Mission and beyond. Over its course, REGILIENCE+ will curate 150 ready-to-use solutions stemming from the knowledge acquired by projects, regions and cities, which will be disseminated through tailored materials and training opportunities that fit local and regional needs.
A Fresh Identity with Familiar Values
REGILIENCE+ represents both a rebranding and a refocusing of the original REGILIENCE initiative. While the new name signals a forward-looking phase, the project’s core purpose remains unchanged: empowering Europe’s regions and communities to adapt to a changing climate. The rebrand equally seeks to align with the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change branding, positioning REGILIENCE+ as a Mission´s flagship project and reinforcing the close collaboration.
This next stage comes with a sharpened focus. REGILIENCE+ will concentrate on supporting regional authorities, where the need for practical, systemic support is most pressing. This shift responds directly to the findings of the Mission’s signatories: 72% of whom say they need more actionable knowledge to turn plans into practice.
Ultimately, the project aims to make climate adaptation smarter, faster, and more coordinated by ensuring that effective solutions can be easily replicated and scaled across Europe.
Expected Impact and Key Outputs
Building on the consortium’s strong track record in coordinating innovation and supporting the Mission Portal, REGILIENCE+ is set to deliver concrete outcomes, including:
- A comprehensive knowledge inventory: 150 adaptation solutions (case studies, tools, and methods) will be collected and integrated into online platforms, with a focus on contributing to Climate-ADAPT and other mainstream knowledge hubs.
- Targeted communication and training: Around 70 multilingual communication products and services will be developed to engage and activate key audiences, from regional and local authorities to the Mission Implementation Platform (MIP4Adapt).
REGILIENCE+ outputs will feed into climate adaptation knowledge platforms, such as the Mission Portal and Climate-ADAPT, amongst others, ensuring that the knowledge developed through REGILIENCE+ remains accessible and useful well beyond the project’s lifetime.
The REGILIENCE+ Consortium
REGILIENCE+ brings together nine expert partners committed to advancing climate resilience across Europe:
- Institute for European Energy and Climate Policy (IEECP) – Project Coordinator
- Fresh-Thoughts Consulting – Technical Project Coordinator
Together, these organisations will work to transform climate knowledge into action, helping Europe’s regions prepare for the challenges ahead and seize the opportunities of a more resilient future.
